A popular cafe and bar in Hamilton's east end will be closing later this month.

In an Instagram post on Family Day, Ward IV owner Sarah Kupferschmidt announced that after more than six years in business, the Main Street East cafe would be closing its physical location.

Kupferschmidt has operated the eatery since 2019, managing to weather the pandemic, which deeply impacted the city's hospitality scene.

She described the decision to close as difficult," noting that she expected 2023 to be a great year" for the business.

We made it through some tumultuous times ... but it has taken its toll on my work/life balance," wrote Kupferschmidt. I put my whole heart into it but my family has suffered. I have to choose to be more present for them."

Kupferschmidt thanked her customers, supporters and collaborators in the post, adding that she is sincerely grateful to have met every single person that has entered this space."

However, the closure of the bricks and mortar spot will not mark the end of Ward IV - the business will live on through pop-ups and other initiatives, noted Kupferschmidt.

She wrote that her new beginning" can be followed at @iv_ward_ent on Instagram.

The last service for the cafe will be on Feb. 25, according to the post.
