Penguins waive McGinn, Friedman
The Pittsburgh Penguins waived forward Brock McGinn and defenseman Mark Friedman on Tuesday.
McGinn has two years remaining on his contract with a cap hit of $2.75 million. The 29-year-old has 10 goals and 15 points in 59 games this season.
Friedman is signed through 2023-24 at a cap hit of $775,000. The 27-year-old cleared waivers in October. He has one goal in 11 NHL games this season.
Should McGinn and Friedman clear waivers and subsequently be assigned to the AHL, the Penguins would free up $1.9 million in cap space.
Pittsburgh placed Kasperi Kapanen on waivers Sunday. The St. Louis Blues claimed the 26-year-old and his $3.2-million cap hit Monday.
