The $29-million home for sale in Ancaster that you can’t see inside
Through slits in the fancy black gate lies a sprawling compound fit for Calabasas, Calif.
Its long, winding driveway surrounded by perfectly manicured pine trees leads to a 17-foot-deep aerated pond and a 6,200-square-foot garage replete with its own lounge, wash bay and private gas pump. Looming behind is a luxurious bungalow boasting custom-moulded ceilings in every room. And in the backyard, a cabana overlooks a massive hot tub, pool, children's playground, and regulation-sized sports court.
The paradisical estate, all 5.2 acres of it, is entirely suitable to exist among the Golden State's most elite neighbourhoods. Instead, it sits on a plot of land in rural Ancaster, flanked by boundless fields of shrubs and grass.
And it could be yours for $29 million.
What curious onlookers can learn about the property at 1272 Fiddlers Green Rd. is limited to a real estate listing, posted Feb. 24, that describes it as spectacular estate with six contemporary bedrooms, 11 washrooms and - yes - 100 parking spots.
But anything else? Like what the mansion looks like inside? You'll have to sign a nondisclosure agreement to know about that.
While the sales listing says you will be awestruck" by the home's grandeur and opulence - from a gourmet kitchen to a magnificent" primary suite; an elevator-accessed basement to a professional gym, spa, party and game room; a 24-seat, 254-inch screen home theatre to a lofted nanny's quarter" atop a second garage - you need clearance to see it either in the flesh or virtually for seller and buyer privacy."
Rest assured, the almost fantastical compound is, in fact, real.
The Spectator visited it twice in three days and its exterior (while without a for sale" sign) matches the nearly three dozen outdoor photos attached in the sales listing.
A few rings of the home's fancy doorbell drummed up no response. Its cameras didn't move either. Attempts to reach the owner of the property through other means were unsuccessful. So, too, were multiple efforts to contact the Royal LePage agent tasked with selling the pricey joint.
The sales listing notes the estate was built from scratch in 2020. Property records show its current owners bought it in September 2015 for $750,000, almost 40 times less than what they hope to now get for it. Before that exchange, 1272 Fiddlers Green was nothing but a chunk of land with a rural family home and a small barn over it, according to Google images.
Its $29-million price tag aside, there should be no surprise the estate is on the market in Ancaster, where last month the average property sold for more than $1.2 million, good for most expensive in Hamilton.
Just down the road from the compound, there's a property at 714 Fiddlers Green that went up for sale in January at $15.9 million, though that piece of land is notably about six times the size of its neighbour and without the shiny features.
In March 2021, the so-called Ancaster Mansion at 140 Garner Rd. E. hit the market for $49 million. Its listing was taken down eight months later, according to HouseSigma, a real estate data collection service. Then, in July 2022, the home reappeared for $54 million. It was taken off the market last December without selling.
