Report: NFL owners to decide on flex scheduling for TNF

NFL owners will vote on a flex-scheduling plan for late-season Thursday Night Football games at next week's league meetings, sources told Ben Fischer and John Ourand of the Sports Business Journal.

If passed, the NFL reportedly would be able to move Sunday afternoon games to Thursday night during Weeks 14-17 as long as 15 days' notice is provided. Additionally, teams would be able to play two Thursday games that follow a Sunday contest instead of only one.

It's uncertain when the flex scheduling would take effect.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell first brought up the possibility of flexing TNF games at his annual pre-Super Bowl press conference.

TNF moved exclusively to Amazon Prime Video in 2022. Amazon assembled a star crew of Al Michaels and Kirk Herbstreit to commentate the games, but the broadcast averaged just 9.6 million viewers for the season, a decline from 2021. The Thursday matchups were criticized throughout the year for a perceived lack of competitiveness and stakes.
