Winter isn't over just yet Hamilton - freezing rain may hit the city Saturday morning.

Environment Canada issued a special weather statement, warning Hamilton and all of southern Ontario to be ready for possible freezing rain and high winds on Saturday morning.

Freezing rain may last for a few hours before changing over to showers or rain Saturday afternoon," says the national weather service.

You can expect Friday's sunny skies and high of 5 C to be blown away when the risk of freezing rain moves in before morning. Winds are expected to gust up to 50 km/h overnight as the temperature dips to 0 C.

As well as freezing rain Saturday morning, strong winds gusting up to 80 km/h are also expected in the afternoon and into the evening, which may lead to local power outages, adds the weather service.

Thunderstorms are also likely Saturday afternoon, with 10 to 20 millimetres of rain expected to fall as the daytime high climbs back up to 5 C.

Ice buildup amounts and the timing of the storm remain uncertain as of Friday morning.
