Niagara police investigating after pedestrian struck and killed early Saturday in St. Catharines
A man in his 30s is dead after being struck by a vehicle in the early morning hours Saturday closing a section of Ontario Street in St. Catharines.
At about 12:30 a.m. Niagara Regional Police were called to the area of Ontario Street and Linwell Road.
A man who had been struck by a vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene and a traffic reconstruction team conducted an investigation in the area, NRPS Sgt. Amber Adamcyzk said.
Adamcyzk said the initial investigation closed the area for about seven hours. Roads were opened to traffic Saturday morning.
We cleared the way around 7:20 a.m. this morning," she said.
She said visibility likely had a role in the accident, as a heavy downpour of rain was occurring at the time.
A pedestrian was walking on the roadway and was struck by a passing vehicle," she said. The weather was not very good at that time, so visibility was a factor."
No charges are currently pending, and alcohol was not a factor, said police.
