Startups backed by Y Combinator working on ‘ChatGPT for X’
At least four startups featured in Y Combinator's Winter 2023 batch claim to be building a ChatGPT for X", i.e., ChatGPT-inspired ventures for specific purposes. However, this isn't really surprising if one considers the viral popularity of OpenAI's generative AI chatbot.
ChatGPT reached 100 million users within two months of being launched, which makes it the fastest-growing app in the world.
The four Y Combinator-backed ventures in question are Yuma, Baselit, Lasso, and BerriAI. Interestingly, the first one was started as an accident, according to its founder Guillaume Luccisano.
YumaYuma is a platform designed primarily for Shopify merchants. With AI systems similar to ChatGPT, it is built to help in the area of customer support. These systems suggest drafts for replies to customer tickets, and as claimed by the startup, the responses are relevant and customized to the support agents". Yuma's AI models can be trained on historical tickets to help them mimic the brand's writing style. Additionally, the platform can also translate between languages for customer service agents.
BerriAIBerriAI directly involves ChatGPT, acting as an intermediary between the AI chatbot and customers. Developers can use the platform to come up with a variety of ChatGPT apps for their organization data.
Users can prototype with different configurations of ChatGPT, share prototypes, and build template configurations that would spin up multiple instances programmatically.
For instance, a company can use BerriAI to create a chat or search interface for employees to ask questions regarding internal documents. The platform can also help develop tools for automating customer support requests by using Jira Tickets or Zendesk as a knowledge base.
BaselitEven those without any coding knowledge can perform database queries in Baselit.Next up, we have Baselit - a ChatGPT-inspired software designed to simplify running database queries. It uses GPT-3 to help businesses implement chatbot-style analytics for their customers. Baselit has fine-tuned the model in contextual information, allowing users to run queries in plain English.
To put it simply, customers can connect Baselit to their databases and use it to chat with the database. The necessary SQL is generated by Baselit, which then proceeds to export the results using various visualization tools like Power BI, Excel, Tableau, etc.
LassoLasso is a powerful platform that brings together a ChatGPT-like interface, a Chrome extension, and robotic process automation (RPA). The startup is set to rival established RPA giants like Automation Anywhere and UiPath. However, several problems associated with setting up existing RPA solutions are solved by Lasso, which gives it an edge.
Lasso makes it ... cheaper and faster to build any robotic process automation using natural language on Chrome.Lucas Ochoa, Lasso co-founderIndeed, cost and time are the key challenges in building RPA solutions using traditional RPA tools.
The hype for ChatGPT is far from overConsidering these ChatGPT-inspired startups, it's safe to say that the hype for OpenAI's viral chatbot is far from over. Yuma and Baselit already face competition from similar AI-powered solutions. Besides, it's likely that more startups would follow suit, developing new ChatGPT for X" software and platforms.
Getting funded by Y Combinator in Winter 2023 will give the startups a major boost, helping them develop their solutions further and possibly introduce new capabilities.
