The social media giant, Facebook, has launched a new feature that allows Messenger users to play games when conducting video calls. Initially, there will be 14 free-to-play games, including Card Verse, Mini Gold FRVR, Exploding Kittens, Words with Friends, etc. Every title has been curated for Messenger. They come with dedicated scoreboards and user interfaces that work flawlessly with Messenger.

For the moments when we can't be together IRL, Messenger video chat helps you connect in real time with the people you care about most...when you have exciting news to share, you need a study buddy for a big test, or you simply want to pass the time together.Facebook

According to Facebook, this new shared experience will make gaming with friends and family more convenient and enjoyable. In addition, this new module may help users develop deeper connections with friends and family by engaging them in gameplay and conversations simultaneously.

How to Use Play Together"

Video callers can access these games from iOS, Android, or the web. However, to start a game, they will need to initiate a video call using Messenger and tap the group mode button. From there, users can tap the play icon to access the game library. Users will need at least two callers to play the said games.

However, not all games in this modest lineup are designed to suit all chat groups.

For example, Exploding Kittens can welcome upto five players, while Words with Friends allows only 2. The selection is expected to grow in the future as Facebook is working to make them perfect and more scalable. Facebook says that the company has invited developers to come up with more intriguing games to expand its library.

The Attempt to Reversal

Last October, Facebook shut down its standalone Facebook gaming app, introduced in 2020 (April), in the rise of the global pandemic. Facebook launched this application to entertain users and help them add some fun and excitement to the monotonous lockdown days.

Leveraging these applications, users could follow their favorite streamers and participate in gaming groups and instant games.

While the company discontinued the application, it stated that it would still allow users to interact with streamers and groups and find their games. They just need to visit the gaming section in the Facebook application.

Now, this new shift to gaming while video chatting can increase the popularity of the application.

The company has been exploring the gaming verse for a few years now, and it has previously equipped Messenger with the ability to allow gameplay when conducting text chats.

It's being said that Facebook has announced this launch because the platform is analyzing the user's ability to access their Messenger inbox from the Facebook application.

In 2016, the company put a pause on messaging from the mobile web application as it wanted to increase the download of the Messenger app. This initiative turned out to be satisfactory for many users. With the launch of the new play-together' feature, the platform is seemingly trying to reverse its decision and earn back user satisfaction.
