Goff: Lions haven't approached me about a new contract

Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff confirmed he hasn't spoken with the team about a new contract but is open to negotiating a possible extension.

"It hasn't been brought to my attention, but yeah, of course, open to anything," Goff said, according to Justin Rogers of The Detroit News.

"I'm a player; I don't have to make those decisions. And if I did, I would have made that decision a long time ago."

Goff has two years remaining on his contract, with cap hits of $30.9 million in 2023 and $31.9 million in 2024, according to Over the Cap. The Lions acquired Goff in 2021 in a blockbuster trade with the Los Angeles Rams that included Detroit's all-time passing leader Matthew Stafford.

The 28-year-old Goff struggled in his first season with the Lions but excelled in 2022. He threw for 4,438 yards with 29 touchdowns and seven interceptions, helping Detroit's offense finish fifth in points per game.

"We've had good talks, more toward the end of last season or right after the end of last season," Goff said. "Everything has been clear and open."

The Lions hold two first-round picks in this month's NFL draft, including the sixth overall pick they acquired in the Stafford trade. Detroit could look to add a young quarterback to the roster to learn behind Goff.

Goff has 25,854 passing yards with 155 touchdowns and 77 interceptions in 100 career games.
