USPS lost expensive gun. No one can help me, not even the authorities. what do i do?
bought a gun from a private FFL off gunbroker. FFL ships it to my local FFL. according to the tracking, it arrived to my local post office at 6am, went out for delivery at 6:30am, and was "delivered to authorized agent" at 4pm last week.
Call FFL, he doesnt have it. wait for the next day. doesnt have it still. make a missing mail report.
went to post office, they check in the back, sorting bins, call their drivers to check, etc. no one has it. no clue where it is. tell me to call postal inspector. postal inspector tells me to open a missing package claim, inform him i did that already and they told me it was "delivered to agent" so that means they delivered it to a mail room, i had to explain to them that its a storefront, it has no mail room and they said welp we dont know then sorry. guy says well call and put in a police report.
call local police non emergency number to make the report. police tells me since i never got it they cant help me, and to call the postal inspector or the local ATF. already talked to the postal inspector, so i call local ATF.
ATF tells me that i cant put in a missing or stolen report with them, and it has to be the shipper. call the seller and explain to him whats going on, tells me he'll "look into it", never did last i called atf and asked if there was a report made.
at this point im fucking lost. i just lost nearly $1k (which sucks cause i JUST got laid off the day it was supposed to be delivered so i could really be using that money at the very least or atleast have the rifle in hand if i ever had to sell it), and NO ONE knows where it is and seemingly NO ONE can put in a report for me.
is that it? its just gone? is there nothing else to do? no one else to talk to? its just vanished along with my $1k dollars and no one seems to care that a firearm got stolen or lost by the USPS? PLEASE someone help, i am freaking out.
ALSO YES I KNOW USPS IS A SHITTY MAIL SERVICE I DIDNT ASK FOR USPS, THE GUY SENT IT THROUGH THERE WITHOUT TELLING ME IT WAS THEM, HAD I KNOWN I WOULDVE ASKED FOR UPS OR FEDEX.
