Driving into Canada from the U.S with firearms

The RCMP website makes it seem pretty simple, but I am wondering if anyone has had any trouble getting into Canada with a firearm due to unforeseen circumstances? I'm planning on just passing through Canada to get to Alaska with a shotgun.
