Zeroing rifle at 50 yards, wildly different impact points. What am I doing wrong?

I'm trying to zero my Zastava ZPAP to a 50 yard zero, using a Sig Sauer Romeo 5 red dot. Used a rifle rest as well.

I can only use an indoor range, so I was using two distances: 10 yards, and 25 yards.

  1. At 10 yards, my impact points were -2 inches below my aiming point, which from what I read is exactly where I want to be for a 50 yard zero. These impact points were tight (practically on top of each other), repeatedly done over and over. So I thought everything was well.

  2. Then I set my target distance to 25 yards, and my impact points SHOULD have been about -1 inch below my aiming point. Instead, they were repeatedly about 2-3 inches ABOVE (and the spread was probably 1-2 inches. Repeatedly, over and over.

Am I swaying the rifle ever so slightly to account for this discrepancy? Is the rifle properly zeroed to approx. 50 yards based on #1, and #2 is due to my user error?

Any thoughts?
