14 things to do around Hamilton this spring weekend

April showers aside, the weekend is shaping up to give you a whack of weekend activity from the AGH Art Sale, to the Paris to Ancaster bike race, to a night at the drive-in.

Environment Canada is calling for periods of rain, but the mercury should hover around 14 C.

Burlington museums

It's Museum Trivia Night on Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Joseph Brant Museum, 1240 North Shore Blvd. E., Burlington. Participants will have the opportunity to view the special exhibition Trailblazing: Women in Canada since 1867," prior to competing in two rounds of trivia. Tickets are $25. museumsofburlington.ca

Art sale

The Art Galley of Hamilton 2023 AGH Art Sale runs Thursday to Sunday featuring more than 300 artworks from 84 featured artists. It's all on view at the gallery, 123 King St. W., opening at 11 a.m. daily. Admission is free to the show and includes all gallery exhibitions. It's a great weekend to soak in the new works presented by local and regional artists, all proceeds support the participating artists and public programming at the AGH. artgalleryofhamilton.com

Paris to Ancaster

Registration is closed for the Paris to Ancaster cycling road race, but the event takes place Sunday starting at the Paris Fairgrounds and ending at Morgan Firestone Arena. Race kit pickup is Sunday. parisancaster.com

Drive-in

The Starlite Drive-in is open for business Thursdays to Sundays. This weekend Screen 1 has Super Mario Bros." and Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves," Screen 2 Evil Dead Rise" and Air," and Screen 3 John Wick: Chapter 4" and Sisu." premiertheatres.ca

Tree giveaway

Get a free tree for your yard and help Hamilton enhance biodiversity. The city is offering a free tree giveaway on Saturday (and on May 6 and 13), from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. (while supplies last) at Turner Park, 344 Rymal Rd. E. No registration is required. The trees include ornamental or shade trees, including white oak, redbud and many other species. hamilton.ca/treegiveaway

Compost

Take your own shovel and pails to Hamilton's Compost Giveaway event on Saturday (and on May 6 and 13), from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. (while supplies last) at Turner Park, 344 Rymal Rd. E. The free compost is made from organic waste collected in the city's yard waste program and is for use in residential gardens and landscaping. Spring yard waste

It's spring clean up time around the city and Hamilton wants to remind residents that yard waste is not accepted in green bins. Keep yard waste in a brown paper waste bag, bushel basket or open-top rigid container with handles that has a City of Hamilton yard waste sticker placed on the container. Yard waste stickers are free, visit hamilton.ca/yardwaste for a list of pickup locations.

Seedy Saturday

Seed giveaways, raffle draws and amazing speakers, vendors and more are part of the Seedy Saturday event sponsored by the Haldimand & Dunnville Horticultural Society. It's Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Cayuga Memorial Arena. Gardening ideas, information and inspiration for everyone. Admission is $5. Non-perishable food items accepted for the local food bank.

Satinder Sartaaj

Very few tickets remain for the Satinder Sartaaj: Sublime Sartaaj Canada Tour stop at FirstOntario Centre, 101 York Blvd., on Saturday. Show starts at 7 p.m. For ticket information, visit coreentertainment.ca.

Stoney Creek family fun

Saturday is family fun day in Stoney Creek from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Live music, entertainment, artisan vendors, barbecue, family fun and more are presented along King Street East from Lake Avenue to New Mountain. Proceeds to the Canadian National Autism Foundation.

Model railway

Model trains are back in Hidden Valley Park, 1137 Hidden Valley Rd., Burlington on Saturday. The Burlington Model Railway Club public display event runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Indoor and outdoor model railway layouts will be on display for children and rail enthusiasts of all ages. Admission is free, donations appreciated.

The Westdale

On Sunday, St. James Anglican Church is screening the film Peace by Chocolate" at The Westdale Theatre. Tickets are $15. Spring fling market

Spring fling market pop-up event is at the Westinghouse HQ, 286 Sanford Ave. N. The Side Hustle event planner has more than 40 local businesses for shopping, live music, charcuterie and snacks on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Spice Brunch

House of Adam and Steve bring you Spice Brunch: Generation Next, a fun-filled Spice Girls impersonation drag brunch this Sunday in The Lounge at FirstOntario Centre, 101 York Blvd., from 12 to 3 p.m. Tickets start at $86.79. coreentertainment.ca
