Reaction: What Hamilton and the world are saying about Gordon Lightfoot

Canadians and music lovers in Hamilton and around the world mourn today. Gordon Lightfoot died Monday.

Lightfoot, the legendary Canadian folk musician who was loved worldwide, has died at 84.

He last performed in Hamilton for a near sold-out crowd at FirstOntario Concert Hall on Nov. 15, 2018, just days before his 80th birthday which he celebrated with a concert in his hometown of Orillia.

Lightfoot had strong ties to Hamilton, recording two studio albums - "Harmony" and a "Painter Passing Through" - at Grant Avenue Studio with producer Bob Doidge.

Lightfoot also commissioned a 260-pound bust of himself by Hamilton sculptor Gino Cavicchioli that was donated to the Orillia Opera House in Lightfoot's hometown.
