Hikers rescued from Tew Falls Sunday night

The Hamilton Fire Department rescued two hikers at Tew Falls after one fell Sunday night.

Emergency services were called to the area inside Spencer Gorge Conservation Area just before 10:30 p.m. for a rope rescue of two hikers, said Shawn De Jager, assistant deputy fire chief.

One of the hikers fell and was hurt, he said. The second hiker was standing by the injured hiker and needed help getting back to the trail.

Firefighters set up a full high angle rope rescue and lifted the two hikers to the top. The injured person's care was transferred to Hamilton paramedics and Hamilton police helped the second hiker back to their car.
