On Tuesday, Meta announced a new compensation structure for its Reel Monetization Program. Rather than compensating creators based on ad revenue, this method will financially reward them according to the success of their public reels. Meta says it has accelerated expansion and invites more creators to join the program.

The company expects that this evolved earning module will allow creators to focus on creating appealing and engaging content while Meta takes care of the ad optimization and user experience.

Meta has also proposed to roll out the test versions of the program on Instagram in the coming days.

Facebook started experimenting with ads on Facebook reels the previous year. Through this initiative, the company wanted to open a new earning avenue for the creators. It also launched the Reels play bonus program, which engaged thousands of creators from across the globe. The said program, however, was shut down recently.

How Will It Work?

According to the new module, the payouts of the creators will be influenced by the number of plays their content garners. As such, the better their reels perform, the more they can earn.

Many variables can alter earnings. They may include the number of ads shown to the person viewing the content, ad relevance, etc.

Meta can include other factors in the future to determine payouts. According to Meta, from various tests, the company has deciphered that performance-tied payouts can better balance everyone's needs.

When the performance of ads influences their earnings, the creators have lesser control over their achievements. However, when it is a performance-oriented payout model, creators are free to concentrate on the content and make them resonate with their target audience.

Besides creators, advertisers are also benefited as they gain access to enhanced ad inventory. Consequentially, they can reach more people, and viewers can come across more relevant ads.

The Joining Process & Eligibility Criteria

Initially, Meta will send automatic invitations to the creators to participate in the new payout program. While new creators will be automatically added to the payout model, pre-existing participants will be moved to it in the coming days.

However, the program features some basic eligibility criteria. They should be at least 18 years old, live in Meta-listed countries, and pass the platform's Content Monetization Policies.

Once a creator joins the program, they are required to complete the entire onboarding process.

The onboarding process may include adherence to the terms of use and declaration of payout details. To check if they're a part of the program, creators can navigate to their professional dashboard and check the monetization tools section.

Upon receiving the invitation, they'll come across an option titled - ads on reels. From there, they can tap on setup' and complete the rest of the process.

Besides this new payout module, Meta has announced plans to begin testing performance-oriented payout models for in-stream ads. However, the company will start the testing with a handful of creators to watch the initial responses.
