The extension makes Mason the fifth-highest-paid right guard in the NFL.

The Texans acquired Mason in a trade with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in March. The deal reunited him with Houston general manager Nick Caserio, who served as the New England Patriots' director of player personnel when the team drafted Mason in 2015.

Mason, 29, spent the first seven seasons of his career with the Patriots before joining the Buccaneers in 2022. He won two Super Bowl championships with New England and has averaged 14.5 starts per season since entering the league in 2015.

Mason will be part of a Houston offensive line tasked with protecting rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud in 2023. The Texans selected Stroud with the second overall pick in this year's draft.

Houston allowed 38 sacks last season, tied for 17th-most in the NFL.
