Halton Regional Police responded to an Oakville neighbourhood late Monday and into Tuesday with more than 12 police cruisers, closing roads and reportedly making multiple arrests.

Halton police responded to the area of Lakeshore Road and East Street around 10 p.m. for multiple reports of disturbances involving fireworks.

Some of the complaints included fireworks being fired at people and properties and there were reports of fireworks being fired at officers.

Peel Const. Ryan Anderson said a large group of youth assembled, discharging fireworks into the air and at each other.
Officers attended and dispersed the crowd.

Several tickets were issued by police and a 15-year-old was charged with assault with a weapon for allegedly discharging a firework toward an officer.

No injuries or property damage reported.

The incidents had people in the Bronte area and other areas infuriated.

This is such a disgrace," tweeted Maureen Knabenschuh.

At one point, residents were reporting 17 Halton police cruisers, along with Halton Region paramedics and Oakville firefighters, on scene.
