Hamilton firefighters performed a high angle rope rescue at the Devil's Punchbowl Tuesday night, rescuing three girls who became trapped while hiking.

The three girls, two aged 14 and one 11, decided to hike from the bottom up and reached a point of no return" about half way up the gorge, said deputy fire chief Dan Milovanovic.

Hamilton Fire received a 911 call to rescue the distressed girls around 6:48 p.m. on Tuesday. Firefighters set up for retrieval and descended down to the girls, who were not hurt.
