Don't be alarmed if you see military vehicles travelling along highways in the Hamilton, London, Kingston and Ottawa areas this weekend.

From May 26 to 28, Canadian Army Reserve personnel from the 31 Service Battalion will be conducting convoy operations. Activities will include driver training and road moves using planned routes on Ontario highways, according to a news release from 31 Canadian Brigade Group.

This regularly-scheduled training exercise is designed to keep Combat Service Support personnel and units ready to respond to missions in Canada, like floods and wildfires. It also helps maintain their capability to support international stability operations with partners and allies.

Participating personnel will conduct planned short halts and longer halts throughout the duration of the exercise, stopping for rest, fuel, and scheduled maintenance.

Members of the public may see military vehicles on the following major roads and highways: QEW, Highway 7, Highway 41, Highway 401, Highway 407, Highway 417, and Highway 418.

Training is being conducted to keep local Canadian Army Reserve members' skills current on convoy drills, navigation, unit and driver discipline, and the safe and effective operation of specific vehicle platforms, according to the news release.

"Members of the public are asked to take extra caution when approaching military vehicles, and are thanked in advance for their understanding and co-operation," notes Lt. Andrew McLaughlin, public affairs officer for 31 Canadian Brigade Group, in the release.
