Grandad’s Doughnuts is back — and just in time for National Doughnut Day
Set your alarms early, Hamilton - Grandad's Donuts is back.
The iconic North End doughnut shop announced Thursday it will reopen at 7 a.m. Friday, making its return after closing for a total revamp in March.
The announcement, posted to Facebook, had garnered nearly 900 likes in just an hour, with many customers sharing their excitement for the return of walnut crunches and orange twists in Steeltown's doughnut rotation.
Owner Barb Aiello previously told The Spectator the renovations would see the kitchen and display cases double in size, while the long-standing dine-in seating will become stools at the window.
There will also be an express pickup window installed at the side of the James Street North building and the washroom will be fully accessible.
Renovations on the James Street North shop were originally slated to begin in January, but were delayed due to permit issues. The business went on a hiring blitz earlier this spring, as it searched for overnight bakers, decorators and front-of-house staff.
June 2 also marks National Doughnut Day, which is pretty fitting for the reopening. The shop will be open until all doughnuts are sold out.
