Chicago Bears linebacker Tremaine Edmunds is preaching patience to fans regarding the status of the team's rebuild.

"I think we just got to take it one day at a time," Edmunds said on "NFL Total Access" on Wednesday, according to Nick Shook of NFL Network. "I think it's too early to start making predictions. I think it's too early to start putting a ceiling on how high we can actually go."

The Bears traded the first overall selection in this year's draft for wide receiver D.J. Moore, the ninth overall pick, 61st pick, and future first- and second-round picks.

The move gives general manager Ryan Poles flexibility in future drafts and provides much-needed help on the outside for quarterback Justin Fields. The Bears didn't have a pass-catcher eclipse 550 yards last season.

Chicago was one of the most active organizations in free agency this year, adding linebackers Edmunds and T.J. Edwards, tight end Robert Tonyan, offensive guard Nate Davis, and running back D'Onta Foreman.

The Bears' big acquisition was Edmunds, who signed a four-year, $72-million contract, the sixth-richest deal handed out to a free agent this offseason. The 25-year-old was a first-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills and has two Pro Bowl selections in his first four seasons in the league.

Edmunds says he's looking forward to being a leader on Chicago's defense.

"I was just excited for the opportunity, man," Edmunds said. "I'm a guy - I like when the odds are against me; I like when the odds are against us. I feel like individuals make the best moves when you're underestimated, and I wanted to go to a team where I could be part of a rebuild. I can be part of turning this thing around, man."

The Virginia Tech product has 565 tackles and five interceptions in 74 career games.
