Setting printer permissions for user mode.

My operating system is Slackware 15.0, and my question is as follows: How do I go about setting permissions for user mode on my printer (I can use my printer when logged in as "root", but I can't us it when I'm logged in to my user account, even though I can see the printer in my user account.
