Gparted won't start on Dell

I have had and used this usb stick with gparted on it successfully for quite some time. I recently acquired a Dell XPS. I want to re-partition the SSD using the gparted stick. It will only partially boot; going past the question about the keyboard and language, etc. Then it freezes at the point of the "no warranty" disclaimer. Can someone suggest where to look for the problem. A bios setting maybe. How would this computer be different than another with respect to running gparted? I have no reason to suspect problems with the SSD as it has been running both Windows and Linux.
