Dak says turning 30 adds urgency to win: 'Don't have forever'
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott said he feels a greater sense of urgency to end the franchise's Super Bowl drought as he enters his age-30 season.
"One thousand percent," Prescott said when asked if turning 30 makes him more eager to win, according to team writer Nick Eatman. "Just understanding injuries and what I've been throughout my career and understanding that you don't have forever to play this game. I'm blessed for every moment that I get. Just trying to take it with a sense of urgency."
Prescott's posted a 61-36 regular-season record throughout his career but has only two wins in six playoff appearances. The Cowboys, who've won five Super Bowl titles, haven't reached the NFC title game since the 1995 season.
A fourth-round pick in 2016, Prescott started every game in his first four NFL seasons but has since missed 17 contests due to injury, including five in 2022. The two-time Pro Bowler turns 30 on July 29.
"Just being 30 doesn't necessarily bother me," Prescott added. "Knowing that I am the old guy, going into Year 8, seeing some of the young guys, some of the rookies and seeing the difference in eight years. It's fun and challenging at times, knowing that I stay connected and stay in the now with what's cool and whatnot. But this game is beautiful. It doesn't matter how old you are because you play this game like a kid."
Prescott, who's signed through the 2024 season, set career single-season highs with a 68.8% completion rate and 37 touchdown passes in 2021. However, the Mississippi State product wasn't able to replicate those numbers last year, completing 66.2% of his passes for 23 touchdowns against a league-high 15 interceptions.
