Flyers pen York to 2-year, $3.2M contract

The Philadelphia Flyers signed defenseman Cam York to a two-year contract with an average annual value of $1.6 million, the team announced Monday.

York scored two goals and 20 points in 54 games as he solidified his place on the Flyers' blue line this past season. He was a restricted free agent.

The 22-year-old posted strong underlying metrics while playing 19:39 per game in 2022-23, featuring on both sides of the Flyers' defense as a left-hand shot.

Over parts of three seasons, York has compiled five goals and 30 points in 87 total NHL games. He's tallied seven goals and 30 points in 62 contests with Philadelphia's AHL affiliate, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.

York will be a restricted free agent at the expiration of his new contract in 2025.

The California native played two seasons at the University of Michigan after being drafted by the Flyers 14th overall in 2019. He captained the U.S. to gold at the 2021 world juniors.

Philadelphia signed RFA forward Noah Cates to a two-year, $5.25-million contract earlier Monday. The Flyers have $7.5 million of cap space after the signings, per CapFriendly, including Ryan Ellis' $6.25-million cap hit on long-term injured reserve.
