Jets' Gardner, Revis call out former CB Samuel over N.Y. media tweets
New York Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner called out former Pro Bowl corner Asante Samuel on social media on Tuesday after the retired defensive back said Gardner's reputation is inflated because he plays in the Big Apple.
Gardner was voted the NFL's second-best cornerback by league executives, coaches, scouts, and players, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.
Samuel didn't agree with the rankings, stating in a series of tweets that Gardner, as well as Hall of Fame corner Darrelle Revis, are products of the New York media.

The No. 4 pick in the 2022 draft, Gardner put on a show last season and became the first rookie cornerback to earn a first-team All-Pro nod since Ronnie Lott in 1981.
The 22-year-old - who racked up two interceptions and a league-high 20 pass breakups last year - topped Seattle Seahawks cornerback Tariq Woolen and Detroit Lions defensive end Aidan Hutchinson to be named Defensive Rookie of the Year. Woolen finished his first campaign with six interceptions, tied for the most in the NFL.
Gardner went back and forth with Samuel on Twitter.
Just like the pro bowl votes use to be. Yes you have the best media behind you. I challenge you to turn some of those pass break up to interceptions this year. You will hear from me

Revis - who played for the Jets from 2007-12 - came to Gardner's defense in a heated exchange with Samuel.

Revis headlined this year's Pro Football Hall of Fame class, which was announced in February. The seven-time Pro Bowler is widely regarded as the best corner of his generation and retired with 29 career interceptions across 11 seasons. Revis also helped the New England Patriots win Super Bowl XLIX.
Samuel played 11 NFL seasons, spending time with the Patriots (2003-07), Philadelphia Eagles (2008-11), and Atlanta Falcons (2012-13). The four-time Pro Bowler, who won two Super Bowls with New England, retired with 51 career picks and led the league in interceptions twice, including a 2009 season when Revis finished second for the Defensive Player of the Year award.
