Coyotes sign Dermott to 1-year, 2-way deal

Travis Dermott will look to reignite his career in the desert.

The Arizona Coyotes signed the defenseman to a one-year, two-way contract, the team announced Wednesday.

The deal carries an $800,000 cap hit in the NHL and a $450,000 salary in the AHL, per CapFriendly.

Dermott missed most of the 2022-23 campaign due to concussion symptoms, playing in just 11 games with the Vancouver Canucks. As a restricted free agent, the club opted not to issue Dermott a $1.75-million qualifying offer to retain his services.

The 26-year-old shoots left but can play both sides and has posted solid defensive metrics throughout his six-year NHL career.

The Toronto Maple Leafs drafted Dermott in the second round in 2015. The Leafs shipped him to Vancouver in 2022 for a third-round pick.

The Coyotes are thin on the blue line. Dermott currently projects to slot in on the left side of the third pairing behind Juuso Valimaki and J.J. Moser.
