Error message ('dpkg interrupted) with update/backup and some installations

When installing and doing backup I get this error message:
E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.

When I try to run this in the terminal it simply installs what seem to be the icons and colour
schemes for Zorin and then stalls.

PS. Just noticed that it is installing the Zorin themes for Softmaker Free Office.

ie:
Setting up softmaker-freeoffice-2021 (3186) ...
Using existing xdg-utils
Create MIME
Adding document icons. This may take a few minutes...
Updating theme Adwaita /1 of 2/
Updating theme hicolor /1 of 2/

The Free Office installation is probably at the root of the problem? Should I remove it and try to reinstall? How do I do this?
