Colts' Nelson: I'm really happy with where Richardson is at right now

Indianapolis Colts offensive lineman Quenton Nelson is thrilled with what he's seen from quarterback Anthony Richardson at training camp.

"His work ethic and his poise in the huddle, for a rookie, has impressed me a lot," Nelson said, according to Stephen Holder of ESPN.

Richardson was selected fourth overall by the Colts in this year's draft with the hope that he would be the team's future signal-caller. The Colts signed quarterback Gardner Minshew to a one-year, $3.5-million contract this offseason with the expectation he would compete with Richardson for the starting job.

Holder noted that Richardson took all of his reps with the first-team offense Tuesday after missing Monday's practice. He also took most of the first-team quarterback reps on Thursday, according to Holder. The Colts are giving Richardson every opportunity to win the starting role.

"The growth I've seen from OTAs til now, you could tell that in the offseason he was at home ... studying, he was working on calling the plays and the huddle," Nelson said, per Holder.

He added: "I'm really happy with where he is at right now."

Nelson has played for eight different starting quarterbacks since being selected sixth overall by the Colts in the 2018 NFL Draft. The three-time first-team All-Pro signed a four-year, $80-million contract extension with the club last fall.
