no network

Since a thunderstorm yesterday, my network is not working (it claims to be up, but it isn't, after /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1 and /etc/rc.d/rc.inet2. netstat -a shows eth0 and wlan0 as appearing to be up. I can't even ping the router.

I remember there being single mode for booting in to do physical system diagnostics, but not how to get there if that's even what I need to do. I'm using my tablet right now. Help please....
