I am looking for a completely new change of path in my life. I am a handy man of sorts, i cut grass and can do general building work etc and i am tired of all the travelling i need to do in order to bring home money.

I am looking to embark upon a career as a Linux server administrator and am following a Udemy course at home at the moment. I often see this as a little out of reach. Perhaps i lack in self belief as this is a complete shift in a direction unknown. Maybe i'm falling into a hole that admins are trying to climb out of. I don't know but i feel excited at the prospect and am certainly willing to give it a go.

I guess i'm looking for advice on, after doing the Udemy thing, what i need to concentrate on next regarding The server admin sphere.

I am trying to stick with the command line interface where i can and avoiding the GUI where possible as the CLI is much tougher than point and click, and also a server is best understood and implemented with CLI.

I understand i need to get familiar with the terminal. I am doing things in the terminal that i couldnt do last week so im making some kind of start.

How translatable to other Linux server distributions is the Ubuntu servers method of implementation?
Is Ubuntu the best server distribution or does it depend on the use thereof?

I am looking at C programming also. It seems simple enough to understand but i'm guessing that's because i'm just scratching the surface. I hear that Rust is taking over from where C has supposedly failed, i.e. Rust being more secure than C.

I need to stick with the fundamentals and then go from there and what i find appealing then just go with that. The more i look at the world of IT the bigger it gets and of course the less i know about it.

Not sure what else to say at the moment apart from all comments are welcome and thank you in advance.
