Printer Enshittification.

The idea for this thread is from a Slashdot Article. Here's a few snippets: Quote:

(Don't worry, Epson has other forms of printer enshittification.)
It seems all the main printer manufacturers are screwing windows users to the wall to increase profits. Lexmark nearly pay you to use their machines, since their refills hold nothing. I thought it would be no harm in this thread to build an unofficial database covering:
  1. What knavery is afoot by various manufacturers.
  2. Whether cheaper or all models are affected.
  3. How much linux users are scourged by this?
For my part, I have a HP Laserjet MFP M130nw - a laserjet mono. Windows drivers need original toner cartridges, but linux doesn't care. I have it on my network and it prints via mobile phone and windows (without reference to me) as well as linux as a network printer with it's own IP. The (non-genuine) toner cartridges last and last.

What I don't know is if the windows user had set it up, what would the situation be? There's a number of MFP printers with similar numbers to mine and they all appear good on network. I don't know if I'd trust any on usb.

I'd welcome other input to guide folks looking at printers.
