Ubuntu LTS 16 to 20 : menu/window fonts destroyed!
by Herve5 from LinuxQuestions.org on (#6DSHZ)
Hello, and sorry for bothering you during this summer time!
I just upgraded an 'old' machine from Ubuntu LTS 16.04 to 18.04 via the automated script, then, as it looked fine, I upgraded again from 18 to 20.04.
That second upgrade went reasonably as fine as the previous one, but upon reboot, all screen fonts went trashed (see pic in the link below), and this is unreadable to the extent I cannot even locate the settings at all.
OTOH, inside the windows the fonts do display correctly, as can be seen in the Firefow window on the pic.
(I heard that from 16 to 20 Ubuntu switched their display manager, which may mean I am missing some packages, but this is all I am able to understand by myself, so I cannot tackle the thing -specially facing the kind of window shown)

Any advice welcome!!
TIA,
Hervi
