Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor, who's in a public feud with the team over his contract, is returning to the club.

Taylor rejoined the Colts on Monday, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. However, the star tailback remains on the PUP list.

Indianapolis head coach Shane Steichen said Sunday he expected Taylor back sometime this week.

"He should be back this week," Steichen said, according to Stephen Holder of ESPN. "Do I know the exact date he'll be back? No, but he should be back."

Taylor has been rehabbing an ankle injury away from the team since early last week. The Wisconsin product has made it clear that he intends to return to the field when he is 100% healthy, sources told Holder.

Steichen added that Taylor has to be cleared by the team's medical staff before being taken off the PUP list, per Holder.

The 24-year-old reportedly requested a trade after meeting with owner Jim Irsay in late July. Taylor is looking for a new contract and is set to play on the final year of his rookie deal in 2023. Irsay stated there are no immediate plans to sign Taylor to a contract extension, and the team does not plan on trading him.

Taylor led the league in rushing in 2021 but battled injuries last season. He only played in 11 games and was placed on injured reserve for the final three contests.

The 2021 first-team All-Pro has 3,841 rushing yards with 33 touchdowns in 43 career games.
