Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers expressed confidence in Zach Wilson leading the franchise when he's done in New York.

"I think we're gonna be competitive here for a long time. I'd like to be able to play a few good years here and then hand it right back off to Zach (Wilson) and let him go for the next 15," Rodgers told Otis Livingston of CBS Sports. "It'd be a really special 18-20-year run of great quarterback play."

Wilson has started the Jets' first three preseason games, completing 26 passes for 258 yards and one touchdown. The BYU product had a highlight-reel play Saturday, spinning out of the pocket to avoid a defender before picking up a huge gain with his legs.

The 24-year-old Wilson was selected second overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. He is 8-14 in 22 career starts and has struggled with his accuracy. Wilson has failed to eclipse a 56% completion percentage in a season and has thrown 18 interceptions overall.

New York acquired Rodgers in a trade with the Green Bay Packers to replace Wilson. However, Rodgers said one of the reasons he came to the Jets was because of Wilson.

"I thought it was the best fit. ... I've known Zach for the last couple of years. Loved him and felt like I could come and help him out as well," Rodgers said.

The Jets last made the playoffs in 2010 and haven't won a Super Bowl in 54 years.
