Bind rtcwake to a key to wake up suspended computer?

For whatever reason, my Linux Mint machine, when suspended, won't wake up via a key press or mouse move/click - I have to manually press the power switch to wake it up. This is rather inconvenient since it's in a rackmount case inside a rack with a door - so I have to open the rack door, flip down the case's front panel, press the power switch, close the front panel, then close the rack door.

I've tested running a cron job with rtcwake and that works but I need to wake my computer whenever (not at specific times). So I'm wondering if there's a way to bind a key to run rtcwake. Instinctively, I think there's no way since, if the computer won't wake up at a key press, how is it going to respond to a keypress to trigger rtcwake? But maybe someone out there knows something I don't.
