A question about input "events"

I was surprised to find, while breaking in a new keyboard, that there are no less than 14 event channels registered in /dev/input and /proc/bus/input/devices. Some of these are sound inputs: front mic, back mic, line in. One is a "joystick", which I presume means the serial port at the back which I have never used. And there is the keyboard and mouse.

But some of the others puzzle me. For example, there are two channels (0 and 2) labelled Power Button, but I only have one such button. Event 1 is Sleep Button and I certainly don't have one of those. I don't even have one on my laptop, let alone on the tower. And there are two extra channels for the keyboard labelled Keyboard system control if-01 and Keyboard consumer control if01-joystick.

Can anyone enlighten me about these?
