New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr is week-to-week with a sprained AC joint, head coach Dennis Allen confirmed Monday.

Allen did not close the door on Carr potentially playing in Week 4 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers despite the shoulder injury.

"I think we dodged a bullet there in terms of anything of real significance," Allen told reporters. Allen added, "He felt better today than he did yesterday. So, we're not making any decisions today. We're not ruling anything out. We'll see where he's at as the week goes on."

Despite Allen's unwillingness to rule Carr out, the team will be cautious with the signal-caller, and it would be surprising if Carr played in Week 4, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Carr was unable to finish Sunday's 18-17 loss to the Green Bay Packers after going down hard on his shoulder on a third-quarter hit.

The 32-year-old led New Orleans to a 17-0 lead after completing 13 of 18 pass attempts for 103 yards and one touchdown. However, the Saints were unable to score after his departure and allowed 18 unanswered points.

If Carr can't play in Week 4, Jameis Winston will likely fill in. Winston came in for the veteran Sunday and completed 10 of 16 passes for 101 yards.

Carr, a free-agent addition this offseason, guided the Saints to a 2-0 start before the Week 3 loss.
