Safety Jamal Adams is set to make his 2023 debut when the Seattle Seahawks play the New York Giants on Monday Night Football on Oct. 2, head coach Pete Carroll said Monday, according to the News Tribune's Gregg Bell.

The Week 4 matchup will mark Adams' first game in over a year after he sustained a torn quadriceps tendon in the 2022 season opener against the Denver Broncos. The injury wiped out the rest of that campaign for the star.

Seattle has gradually increased Adams' activities at practice in hopes that he'll be available for the team's next 14 games and beyond, reports Bell.

Injuries have hampered Adams over the past few seasons. The former first-team All-Pro has missed 29.5 contests since being acquired by the Seahawks in a trade with the New York Jets in 2020. Adams signed a four-year, $70.58-million contract extension with Seattle in August 2021.

The 27-year-old provided immediate versatility in the Seahawks' defense after he arrived, setting a league record for sacks by a defensive back with 9.5 in 2020. However, Adams began blitzing less and playing more in coverage the following season.

With Seattle signing Julian Love this offseason to pair with Quandre Diggs in the secondary, Adams could revive his role as a hybrid defender who plays closer to the line of scrimmage. The Seahawks' three-safety scheme is set to provide an added dimension to defensive coordinator Clint Hurtt's system.
