Nvidia GPU as non-display for CUDA on Slackware 15.0

From what I can tell, this should be possible but I'm not sure of the steps. It seems that firstly the nvidia drivers need to be installed (are they installed by default if I went with an AMD card or do I need to take steps?) and I need to update xorg.conf (though there doesn't appear to be an xorg.conf in /etc and xorg.conf.d is also empty). Can anyone offer up a couple of hints on how to proceed? Thanks in advance.

(My primary GPU is an AMD which vastly outperforms the Nvidia card so I'd like to keep it as the primary display).
