Dolphins' Achane placed on IR, will miss at least 4 games
The Miami Dolphins are placing star rusher De'Von Achane on injured reserve due to a knee injury, head coach Mike McDaniel announced Wednesday, according to ESPN's Marcel Louis-Jacques.
Achane suffered the injury in the team's Week 5 win over the New York Giants, McDaniel revealed earlier this week. McDaniel didn't elaborate on how long the rookie running back could miss during his Monday press conference, calling it "trivial."
The 2023 third-round pick will be eligible to return in Week 11. He's set to miss contests against the Carolina Panthers, Philadelphia Eagles, New England Patriots, and Kansas City Chiefs before Miami embarks on its Week 10 bye.
Achane has taken the NFL by storm since making his debut in Week 2. He's rushed for 460 yards and scored seven total touchdowns. He also recorded 100-plus yards in three straight games, including a 203-yard effort on the ground against the Denver Broncos in Week 3. He found the end zone four times in that game.
Veteran back Raheem Mostert leads the Dolphins' backfield with 58 carries. He's rushed for 314 yards and seven touchdowns, and he's averaged 5.4 yards per carry.
Running back Jeff Wilson's 21-day practice window begins Wednesday, McDaniel said. Wilson has missed the start of the season with a rib injury.
The Dolphins' high-octane offense is averaging a league-leading 36.2 points per game this season.
