Mahomes: Chiefs' young receivers 'getting better and better'

The Kansas City Chiefs' passing attack continues to run through Travis Kelce, with the star tight end accounting for 124 of Patrick Mahomes' 306 yards in Thursday's win over the Denver Broncos.

Despite a lack of consistent production from Kansas City's young wideouts, Mahomes is noticing improvement from the unit.

"They're getting better and better," Mahomes said on the Prime Video postgame show. "Obviously, we didn't score touchdowns today, but we moved the ball down the field. Just little execution things here and there. Rashee Rice is coming along strong, man. You see when he catches the ball how explosive he is.

"But I think guys like Justyn Ross, guys like Skyy Moore, they have a place in this offense, and they're going to make plays as the season goes on. It's just going to be about getting them involved early, keep getting their confidence going."

Rice was second behind Kelce with a career-high 72 yards on four catches against Denver. Kadarius Toney caught a touchdown but finished with just 9 yards on three receptions. Meanwhile, Moore had just 22 yards, and Ross barely saw the field.

The Chiefs have yet to get a 100-yard performance from any of their four main young receivers.

Kansas City has one of the NFL's youngest receiver corps - Rice, Moore, and Ross are 23 years old, while Toney is 24 - and the group has come under increasing scrutiny this season as the reigning champions struggle to hit their usual heights on offense.

Marquez Valdes-Scantling is the AFC West club's lone established veteran, but he's only produced seven catches for 116 yards this season and had no receptions against Denver.

A year after again finishing as the league's top-rated offense, the Chiefs rank ninth in points per game (24.5), 15th in yards per pass attempt (7.1), and 17th in red-zone touchdown percentage (54.17%) through six games.
