Can't get Ubuntu installed on Dell Wyse 5070 thin client
by bmbm40 from LinuxQuestions.org on (#6FKCQ)
Hi all and thank you for any help you can provide,
I canit get Ubuntu 22.04.3 installed on my Dell Wyse 5070 Pentium Silver J5005 thin client after several attempts. When the message appears to restart to finish the installation, I click restart but never get the iRemove the installation medium, then press enteri prompt. The last install attempt after restarting I shut the pc down and then powered it on. Then, these following five screens appeared sequentially without my input:
Error: file /boot/ not found message appears very briefly.
Grub menu appears and will stay active for approximately a minute.
SGX disabled by BIOS appears briefly.
Dell Ubuntu startup screen appears.
Install splash screen appears with option to try or install Ubuntu.
So, then I:
Selected x to quit the installation.
SGX disabled by BIOS appears briefly.
Ubuntu default screen appears but the Install Ubuntu buttons are present (2).
I tested to see if install was working by creating a word document and saving, using Firefox to play a YouTube video, installing Plex and playing a video by activating DRM on Firefox, and all this seemed normal. However, it could not download Ubuntu Desktop iso with multiple attempts to do so.
I then powered off and powered back on to find the word document gone as well as Plex install. It seems this is in the iTry Ubuntui mode?
The Boot Sequence is arranged thusly (tried to put screen shot here but can't):
UEFI: WD Blue SA510 M.2 2280 500GB Partition 2
ubuntu (not sure what this is or where it came from)
USB boot
Onboard NIC (IPV4)
Onboard NIC (IPV6)
These are the possibly relevant checked settings in BIOS:
UEFI Boot Path Security>Always Except Internal HDD
Enable UEFI Network Stack
Integrated NIC>Enabled w/PXE
2nd NIC (RJ-45/SFP)>Enabled w/PXE
Serial Port>COM1
Sata Operation>AHCI
Drives>SATA-0 (Device ID WD Blue)
USB Config>Enable USB Boot Support & Front/Rear USB Ports
Front USB Config>all Enabled
Rear USB Config>all Enabled
TPM 2.0 Security>TPM On>Enabled
Bios Recovery from Hard Drive
Enable USB Boot Support
Secure Boot Enable
Secure Boot Mode > Deployed Mode
Intel SGX Enable>Software Controlled
Fastboot>Thorough
I must have missed something in the installation process or mangled something in the BIOS settings. I selected iNormal Installationi and iErase disk and install Ubuntui in the install process. I tried two USB drives for these attempts flashed with Balena. The current BIOS version is not the latest version, but this pc was previously set up with Home Assistant OS installed directly on the PC (on different ssd) and it worked fine. And of course, my technical skills are primitive which I am trying to improve upon.
Thank you.
