Why horrible Micro USB 3 instead of proper B connector or USB C?

Okay, here is a random question for you all, that's baffled me for a long time... WHY does so many peripheral devices (like "stationary" external hard drives and USB hubs), come with the absolutely horrible and flimsy Micro USB 3 connector, instead of a more mechanically sturdy proper "B" connector? I don't think I've ever even seen a USB 3 B connector in real life. Why is this connector so rare?

And bonus question: Why does new high capacity external hard drives still come with this horrible connector, when USB C has now been around for so long?

And to clarify, I mean at the peripheral end, not the connector that plugs into the computer.

Anyone who can share some insight into this?

Surely, the Micro USB 3 connector must qualify as the second worst connector in history after SCART...
