Bears expected to start Bagent at QB vs. Chargers, Fields remains doubtful

Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields is questionable for Sunday night's game against the Los Angeles Chargers, head coach Matt Eberflus announced Monday, according to The Athletic's Kevin Fishbain.

Fields also missed Chicago's 30-12 win over the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 7 after suffering a dislocated right thumb in Week 6.

"He's just not there yet," Eberflus said.

With Fields likely sidelined again, the Bears will have first-year passer Tyson Bagent under center for the second straight week. An undrafted rookie out of Division II Shepherd, Bagent made his first NFL start against the Raiders, finishing the game with 21 completions on 29 attempts for 162 yards and one touchdown to go along with 24 yards on the ground.

"Bagent will be our starter until that time (Fields) is cleared," Eberflus added. Chicago's quarterback depth chart also features Nathan Peterman and Trace McSorley, who's on the practice squad.

Fields completed 61.7% of his passes for 1,201 yards and 11 touchdowns to six interceptions in six games this season before going down. He also added 237 yards and one rushing score.

The Bears are 2-5 this season, while the Chargers dropped to 2-4 after losing to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. Los Angeles currently has the NFL's second-worst defense in EPA allowed per dropback.
