Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett was unable to finish Sunday's 20-10 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars due to a rib injury.

Pickett landed hard on his right side after being taken down on an incomplete pass near the end of the second quarter. He walked off the field, appearing to favor his rib area, before heading to the locker room.

The Steelers initially announced that Pickett was expected to return before ruling him out just minutes later.

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin told reporters postgame that he didn't know the extent of Pickett's injury yet, according to ESPN's Kimberley A. Martin.

Pickett's status for the Steelers' Week 9 matchup against the Tennessee Titans is undetermined, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter. The team wants to see how its starting signal-caller feels Monday to get a clearer idea of his availability.

Veteran quarterback Mitchell Trubisky came in for Pickett. Trubisky threw one touchdown and two interceptions in relief.

Pittsburgh's offense struggled to get going with Pickett under center Sunday. The second-year quarterback was only able to engineer three points, while four drives resulted in three-and-outs.

He finished the day with 10 completions on 16 attempts for 73 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions.

The loss dropped the Steelers to 4-3.
