The Chicago Bears signed defensive end Montez Sweat to a four-year contract extension, the team announced Saturday.

The deal is worth $98 million and includes approximately $72.8-million guaranteed, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

The 2019 first-rounder was dealt from the Washington Commanders to the Bears at this year's trade deadline for a second-round pick.

Sweat racked up 35.5 sacks, 47 tackles for loss, 85 quarterback hits, and nine forced fumbles in 67 career games with Washington.

The 6-foot-6, 262-pounder offers plenty of pass-rush capability to a team that's struggled to get after opposing quarterbacks. Linebacker T.J. Edwards and defensive end Yannick Ngakoue are tied for the team lead in quarterback takedowns with just two each. Chicago has only 10 sacks as a team this season.

The 27-year-old is slated to make his Bears debut this Sunday against the New Orleans Saints.
