Defect videocard op what?
by louis47 from LinuxQuestions.org on (#6GCTS)
I have:
Clevo notebook 32 GB memory (2016)
Processor i7 2.80 GHz
1 normal 512GB disk , 1 Intel ssd disk also 512 GB. NVIDIA Geforce video card.
This happens a few weeks ago:
Suddenly my laptop was froozen. By opstart I saw only a few colorfull stripes on the screen of the notebook, I tought a defect videocard. In bios I see that video was set on DISCRETE I change that in MSHYBRID. Now Now the notebook can also use the videocapability from the CPU. I buy me a Geekom minipc and the old notebook (2016) i wil use for linux play en expirementing with other distro's.
When installing e.g. Kumander 7.1 I have an image on my laptop screen, I can follow the installation procedure on that screen. But after installation, boot up no longer an image on laptop screen and also not on 2nd screen.
Some 'strange' things for a Windows user:
Gparted sees 2 drives wdc and SSD; Dolphin only see the WCD drive.
Looked with Testdisk only recognizes the WCD disk.
CPU-X sees my Nvidia video card (40 degrees open GL version 4.60) and doesn't give any error codes or the like. Graphics test is going well, but I don't know here if he tests the graphics part of the CPU or also the NVIDIA test. Test with spinning prancing horse etc. GLMark2 score = 1459 I don't know how to interpret that score.
My PC setup Geekom mini PC and laptop are connected to Samsung 28" screen via KVM Switch.
A few days earlier I ask on the site of Kumander:
I thought I had a defect Nividia Videocard so I set in de Bios (UEFI) MSHYBRID Now he start up with graphics possibillity from the CPU.In bios was set on DISCRETE. Because of that problem I don't have any activity on the notebook screen so I use my second screen a 28" (when you are older you need things bigger) screen. For my Kubuntu its perfect.
On the Normal disk" I have Kubuntu and on the SSD I will install Kumander. A very nice distro. And expirimented/play with other distro's
To install I get a very clear menu. But I am not familiar with Linux so I need some help. How to make and partitions? Ext2,3,4 os NTFR, FAT 16 or 32. Need I EFI or is MBR good enouch.
But see the next day:
This morning I try it again and write the steps on paper. Suprise I take the right choise: use the whole disk. But after install I start the notebook and now I get no screen on second screen or the screen of the notebook. GRUB:On start I get a 26 choises of possibibilities I choise the first one, there are The same happens with other distro's.
Looking with Gparted to the disks IntelSSD: ( I don't get that in a nice index
Partition: /dev/nvme0 p1; /dev/nvme0 p2; /dev/nvme0 p3
Filesystem: Fat32; ext4; Linuxswap
Size: 512 MiB; 475 GiB; 976 MiB
Used: --; 13 GiB; 0.00 B; Unused: --; 427 GiB; Flags : --; Boot,esp; Swap
Did I sometings wrong?
Thanks in advance.
