Browns' Ward ruled out vs. Broncos
Cleveland Browns cornerback Denzel Ward won't suit up against the Denver Broncos on Sunday due to a shoulder injury, reports Cleveland.com's Mary Kay Cabot.
Ward did not participate in this week's practices due to the ailment. Head coach Kevin Stefanski was noncommittal about whether the two-time Pro Bowler would be sidelined for an extended period of time, per Cabot.
Greg Newsome, Martin Emerson, and Mike Ford are in line to operate as the team's top three corners against a Broncos team that's won four games in a row.
Both Newsome (calf) and Ford (thumb, ribs) are on the injury report. The former has been a limited participant in practice, while the latter has ramped up from limited to full participation.
The Browns rank first in yards allowed per contest (243.3) and sixth in points surrendered per game (18). Opposing quarterbacks have completed just 48.1% of their throws against Ward for 280 yards and one touchdown this season, according to PFR.
Ward has 29 total tackles, two interceptions, 10 pass breakups, and a forced fumble this year.
